    Experiential value of exhibition in the cultural and creative park: antecedents and effects on CCP experiential value and behavior intentions

    The protection of industrial cultural heritage is related to sustainable urban development. Cultural and creative parks (CCPs) are a way for many cities to protect their industrial cultural heritage. In the context of CCPs, this study examines the relationships among the antecedents of exhibition experiential value, CCP experiential value, and behavioral intentions. Surveying 428 visitors in two well-known CCPs in Taipei, this study found that the four antecedents (attractiveness, existential authenticity, self-congruence, and exhibitionā€“park image congruence) have a positive impact on exhibition experiential value. Exhibition experiential value has a positive impact on CCP experiential value, which in turn, affects behavioral intentions toward the CCP. In addition, this study finds that exhibition experiential value has a mediating effect between the four antecedents and CCP experiential value. Moreover, CCP experiential value has a mediating effect between exhibition experiential value and behavioral intentions. The findings of this study provide a direction for CCPs to achieve sustainable development through exhibitions that can attract more tourists

    A Simple Model for Cavity Enhanced Slow Lights in Vertical Cavity Surface Emission Lasers

    We develop a simple model for the slow lights in Vertical Cavity Surface Emission Lasers (VCSELs), with the combination of cavity and population pulsation effects. The dependences of probe signal power, injection bias current and wavelength detuning for the group delays are demonstrated numerically and experimentally. Up to 65 ps group delays and up to 10 GHz modulation frequency can be achieved in the room temperature at the wavelength of 1.3 Ī¼\mum. The most significant feature of our VCSEL device is that the length of active region is only several Ī¼\mum long. Based on the experimental parameters of quantum dot VCSEL structures, we show that the resonance effect of laser cavity plays a significant role to enhance the group delays

    Probing onset of strong localization and electron-electron interactions with the presence of direct insulator-quantum Hall transition

    We have performed low-temperature transport measurements on a disordered two-dimensional electron system (2DES). Features of the strong localization leading to the quantum Hall effect are observed after the 2DES undergoes a direct insulator-quantum Hall transition with increasing the perpendicular magnetic field. However, such a transition does not correspond to the onset of strong localization. The temperature dependences of the Hall resistivity and Hall conductivity reveal the importance of the electron-electron interaction effects to the observed transition in our study.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

    Improving Success Rates of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Chronic Total Occlusion at a Rural Hospital in East Taiwan

    SummaryBackgroundWe aimed to report the results of percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic total occlusion (CTO) in a remote hospital of southeast Taiwan that does not have on-site coronary artery bypass graft support and has insufficient medical resources.MethodsFrom 2006 to 2009, we identified 96 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention and whose coronary angiogram showed CTO lesions. On-site cardiovascular surgeons were unavailable from 2006 to 2009.ResultsThe success rate (test for trend, pĀ =Ā 0.02) and numbers of guidewires used (test for trend, pĀ =Ā 0.59) significantly increased from 2006 to 2009, and the procedural time reduced significantly (test for trend, pĀ =Ā 0.001). The volume of contrast media injected decreased, although this result was not statistically significant (pĀ =Ā 0.70).ConclusionOur experience in managing CTO lesions substantially improved and the procedural time reduced over 4 years, even when constrained by a relative shortage of medical resources

    Selection of DDX5 as a novel internal control for Q-RT-PCR from microarray data using a block bootstrap re-sampling scheme

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The development of microarrays permits us to monitor transcriptomes on a genome-wide scale. To validate microarray measurements, quantitative-real time-reverse transcription PCR (Q-RT-PCR) is one of the most robust and commonly used approaches. The new challenge in gene quantification analysis is how to explicitly incorporate statistical estimation in such studies. In the realm of statistical analysis, the various available methods of the probe level normalization for microarray analysis may result in distinctly different target selections and variation in the scores for the correlation between microarray and Q-RT-PCR. Moreover, it remains a major challenge to identify a proper internal control for Q-RT-PCR when confirming microarray measurements.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Sixty-six Affymetrix microarray slides using lung adenocarcinoma tissue RNAs were analyzed by a statistical re-sampling method in order to detect genes with minimal variation in gene expression. By this approach, we identified <it>DDX5 </it>as a novel internal control for Q-RT-PCR. Twenty-three genes, which were differentially expressed between adjacent normal and tumor samples, were selected and analyzed using 24 paired lung adenocarcinoma samples by Q-RT-PCR using two internal controls, <it>DDX5 </it>and <it>GAPDH</it>. The percentage correlation between Q-RT-PCR and microarray were 70% and 48% by using <it>DDX5 </it>and <it>GAPDH </it>as internal controls, respectively.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Together, these quantification strategies for Q-RT-PCR data processing procedure, which focused on minimal variation, ought to significantly facilitate internal control evaluation and selection for Q-RT-PCR when corroborating microarray data.</p

    A delta-doped quantum well system with additional modulation doping

    A delta-doped quantum well with additional modulation doping may have potential applications. Utilizing such a hybrid system, it is possible to experimentally realize an extremely high two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) density without suffering inter-electronic-subband scattering. In this article, the authors report on transport measurements on a delta-doped quantum well system with extra modulation doping. We have observed a 0-10 direct insulator-quantum Hall (I-QH) transition where the numbers 0 and 10 correspond to the insulator and Landau level filling factor Ī½ = 10 QH state, respectively. In situ titled-magnetic field measurements reveal that the observed direct I-QH transition depends on the magnetic component perpendicular to the quantum well, and the electron system within this structure is 2D in nature. Furthermore, transport measurements on the 2DEG of this study show that carrier density, resistance and mobility are approximately temperature (T)-independent over a wide range of T. Such results could be an advantage for applications in T-insensitive devices
